I think it’s really important that we point out that the whole dream sequence blurred between both Kurt and Dave. We can’t really tell which parts are just in Dave’s imagination, just in Kurt’s imagination, or shared between the two. Dave’s partner during the dream sequence is mostly just a man shaped blur standing in the corner for most of this but when he comes into focus he has a similar hair style as Kurt + moustache.
We can’t know if it was just Dave or Kurt projecting himself into that dream future while still creating enough differences so he wouldn’t have to think about it too much.
